Why Become A Driving Instructor In Braintree?

Braintree is a good place to train as a driving instructor because many of the outlying towns in the area are not well served by public transport. People who live in Bocking, Rayne, Great Notley, Coggeshill, Silver End, and Halstead often need to learn how to drive to be able to get around. For many young people living there, it’s the only way to get to college or see friends. And that’s the type of underlying demand that’s unlikely to go away.

What’s more, the region is experiencing significant growth, especially around Great Notley and the A131 corridor. New people are moving to the area all the time, wanting access to Chelmsford, Ipswich, and London beyond.

The Reality Of Teaching In Braintree

Braintree is actually a useful place to teach students because it offers a wide mix of roads. There are plenty of areas suitable for manoeuvring practice, as well as the A120 and A131 dual carriageways for high-speed experience.

Just a note before you commit to anything: Braintree doesn’t have its own practical test centre. Students generally travel to Chelmsford or Colchester to take their tests.

A Career Built Around Your Commitments

Becoming a driving instructor in Braintree means that you can build a career around your pre-existing commitments. Here are some of the benefits:

  • You get to set your own hours, whether you want to work in the evenings or on Saturdays.
  • No day is the same with new pupils and different goals.
  • You can blend your working life around your family or part-time school responsibilities.

How Much Money Can You Make?

Many people looking to become driving instructors in Braintree want to know how much money they can potentially earn. We won’t quote you a specific salary, and we would suggest being cautious of anyone who does.

Ultimately, your pay will depend on how in-demand you are and the number of hours you work. It also depends on things like lesson prices and the cost of upkeep for your vehicle, including fuel and insurance. As an agency, we would rather have an honest conversation with you in person about real earning potential rather than sell you a figure.

Who Is Eligible To Become A Driving Instructor In Braintree?

You are eligible to become a driving instructor in Braintree if you are over the age of 21 and have held a full car driving licence for three years. You also need to pass an enhanced DBS check and be assessed as a fit and proper person.

If you want to learn more about these requirements, visit our main ADI training page

Alternatively, contact One Direction Driving School today. Tell us about your situation, and we’ll provide you with more information about how long becoming a qualified instructor realistically takes and what you could potentially earn.

How To Become An Approved Driving Instructor

Becoming an approved driving instructor follows a clear, structured process, though it takes commitment to pass all three DVSA tests:

Part 1: theory and hazard perception

Part 2: practical driving test to a higher standard than a regular learner test

Part 3: assessment to gauge your ability to teach a real student

To be eligible as a driving instructor in the UK, you need to be at least 21 years old. You also need to have held a full car driving licence for at least three years. You also need to be judged a fit and proper person and submit to an enhanced DBS check.

Worth knowing: once you pass Part 1, you have two years to pass both Part 2 and Part 3, or you’ll need to start the whole process again, so it’s worth planning your training around that window.

For details, see our main ADI training page. For the official eligibility criteria, you can also check gov.uk’s guidance on becoming an ADI.
